Renzo Sartori Laboratories & Ex Asili

The primary site of the Ravenna Technopole is located at the Renzo Sartori Laboratories on the University of Bologna’s Ravenna Campus, a strategic location that brings together academic research, technological innovation, and the development of the local area. Research activities are focused on key areas such as environment (monitoring and waste), energy from renewable sources (solar, marine and from industrial waste, pyrolysis), the nautical sector, materials (synthesis and characterisation), marine ecology, environmental management systems, the circular economy and industrial symbiosis.

In addition to the head office in via Sant’Alberto, the Technopole also operates at the Ex Asili site in via Tombesi dall’Ova (RA). Here, specialist teams focus on the conservation and restoration of historical and artistic heritage and on engineering research into both offshore and onshore environments.

Laboratories and research activities

The Network’s laboratories operate within the Interdepartmental Centres for Industrial Research (CIRI) of the University of Bologna, where the following research groups are active:

CIRI-FRAME (Renewable resources, Environment, Sea and Energy)

CIRI FRAME and CIRI EC (Building and Construction)

CIRI MAM (Advanced Mechanics and Materials)

The Technopole’s services and expertise work in close synergy with the academic offering of the Ravenna Campus, home to a number of outstanding international degree programmes. These include Offshore Engineering for Energy Transition — training future specialists in the design, management and operation of maritime and offshore infrastructure — as well as Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences, and Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. It also serves as a key reference point for the BiGeA Department and for the Interdepartmental Research Centre for Environmental Sciences (CIRSA), a major player in environmental and marine research and education. Together, they reinforce Ravenna’s position as a national centre of excellence for research and sustainable innovation.
